The exhibition SITE#1 presents photographic works by the two photographic artists Johann Husser and Johannes Maas. There will be an artist talk on 30.10.19 at 7pm at the end of the exhibition.

Johann Husser's (KHM, Cologne) photographic work Our Only True Life Is In The Future, which is a quote of O'Brien's monologue in George Orwell's 1984, strives to create a hypothetical vision of the future. Husser's photographs transport the viewer into a dystopian landscape. The photographic material was not only created by Husser himself, but also drawn from the free archives of NASA. The result is a dialogue as well as an interaction between the two photographic languages that extends the context of the work as well as that of the NASA photographs.

In the large-scaled works of the series B -Seite by Johannes Maas (Hochschule München, Munich) viewers will initially be surprised that these images are photographs. Free of any clues pointing to reality or figuration, one is exposed to the pure effect of color, light, and shadow. Picturesque colour surfaces, which darken increasingly towards the outside, are covered by vertical columns of light, so that one is literally drawn into the picture. Only the black of the massive frame offers support and contour by separating the mystically appearing image from the rest of the surrounding space.
